ALPHATEC^® 442 is a modified epoxy resin-based concrete primer with good tolerance for wet surfaces. It can be applied on concrete, wood, or steel surfaces, and shows tenacious adhesion even when cured in the presence of water. It forms a good basis for the application of lining, flooring or patching mortar systems, particularly when surface preparation methods such as high-pressure water blasting are the only practical approach.

ALPHATEC^® 442 is used in underwater repairs of jetties, piers and wharves, as well as in wet areas in industrial plants such as steel rolling mills. It is frequently used in conjunction with ALPHATEC^® 442 patching compound.

Packaging and Safety

ALPHATEC^® 442 is packaged in two litre and four litre sets. One litre will cover approximately three to four m² of prepared concrete surface. Other package sizes are available on request.

All ALPHATEC products are intended for industrial use, and should be used only by experienced personnel with proper equipment & training. Always use proper protective clothing, including gloves, face masks or shields, and wash any exposed skin thoroughly after using the product. ALPHATEC 442 contains no solvents, so it has very little flammable hazard. See Safety Data Sheets for more information.

Mixing and Handling

Mix the components together using a low-speed electric-powered or air-powered mixer for at least one minute. The mixed material can then be applied by brush or roller – brush is preferred since it helps the primer penetrate into the surface. ALPHATEC 442 can be over-coated by the patching compound or underwater grout almost immediately.

If the area to be primed is small, the primer can be measured out into a graduated beaker, using the ratio of two parts liquid to one part hardener by volume. When temperatures are very high, it is advisable to use the smaller set, or to measure out smaller quantities, to avoid premature curing in the container.
