Two compressor skid Installations and grouting

In Autumn 2024, our team successfully executed the installation and grouting of two compressor skids at a prominent petrochemical plant in Hungary.

The objective was to ensure optimal alignment and stability of the equipment by preparing concrete plinths, installing anchor bolts, and applying high-performance epoxy and cement grouts under the demanding conditions of a high-pressure industrial setting.

Project Details

The project focused on the meticulous preparation of existing concrete plinths through scabbling and cleaning to create a sound bonding surface for the grouting process.

Each compressor skid was positioned using jacking screws for precise alignment, and anchor bolts were wrapped, greased, and secured to ensure long-term stability.

02

Key Challenges

Some of the main challenges encountered included non-functional equipment, tight project timelines, limited site resources, and complex pouring conditions under the skid pockets.

Additionally, unforeseen issues such as equipment failures, coordination difficulties among multiple teams, and weather impacts like rain, which risked grout contamination, added to the complexity of the task.

03

The Procedure

The work spanned several carefully planned phases:

Initial Preparation (Day 1-3)

ย The concrete plinths were thoroughly scabbled and cleaned. Anchor bolts were prepped and the compressor skids were lifted and aligned using jacking screws.

Intermediate Tasks (Day 4-5)

ย Anchor bolts were grouted, and formwork was installed. Dry packing was applied to prevent leaks prior to the start of epoxy grouting.

Grouting Execution (Day 6-7)

ย Epoxy grout was poured in stages, followed by the removal of formwork and comprehensive site cleanup. Special attention was given to high-pour areas and the challenges of pouring under skid pockets.

Final Steps

Jacking screws were capped off, and materials were efficiently moved back to storage.

Conclusion

Despite facing equipment failures, logistical hurdles, and challenging weather conditions, the teamโ€™s systematic approach and agile problem-solving ensured the successful installation and grouting of both compressor skids.

The foundation met all client specifications and reaffirming the importance of flexibility, teamwork, and technical expertise in complex industrial projects.
