New Reciprocating Compressor Grouting

In Winter 2020, Alphatec Engineering undertook grouting work for a new reciprocating compressor installation at Magasépitö ’99 Kft in Kardoskút, Hungary.

The package featured a new SYCC/Burckhardt compressor installation, including a 6-cylinder compressor driven by a 2900 kW Siemens electric motor, and required precise grouting to secure anchor bolts and stabilise the skid system.

Installation Background and Overview

Professional grouting was essential to ensure proper functioning by firmly securing the anchor bolts into the foundation and advising on key installation aspects.

  • The compressor package, supplied by Ganzair Compressortechnics, was installed on a pre-prepared foundation, with jacking screws extending about 60 mm below the skid.

  • Pre-drilled anchor bolt holes and pre-treated baseplates ensured the initial conditions met the requirements for precise grouting.

02

The Procedure

After the team completed the necessary HSE training, the grouting process began with securing the anchor bolts using cone-shaped funnels and 200 litres of ALPHATEC® 800 High-performance epoxy grout.

Formwork—reinforced with timber doublers and sealed along the bottom edge with ALPHATEC® 240 epoxy putty—was then installed to contain the subsequent grout pour.

Approximately 1400 litres of grout were steadily poured over four hours to ensure complete contact with all relevant skid surfaces.

The system was allowed to cure overnight until the grout reached a hardness of between 82 and 95 Shore D, after which jacking screws were removed and the area was cleaned.

Project Outcome

The comprehensive grouting operation delivered a secure and well-aligned foundation for the compressor installation, effectively minimising vibration risks and meeting stringent industrial standards.

This precise execution has helped guarantee reliable performance for the new compressor system in this high-capacity gas storage facility.
